Ever since the govt. is coming forward with education policies, the most important focus is learner centred education. But in practice it is still a far cry. Our education, teaching practices, strategies seem to be dogmatic and obsolete. Perhaps the reason is lack of proper professional development programmes for teachers. Most of our teachers do not possess necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to provide quality education. They teach in their own style and hardly make efforts to sharpen their saw. The professional courses for teachers have failed to produce real teachers. If a detailed study is conducted to analyse this, it will certainly find that more than 70 percent of them are teachers  by chance and not by choice. This is perhaps very unfortunate for our education. Principal with Principles

Principal is a key person in school /college system. It is often said that as is the principal so is the school. It is of course true to a larger extent. Principal is an academician, administrator, manager and a leader. His/her role in the system is multidimensional. Principal should be able to articulate and realize the School's vision and mission of holistic education. Secrets of success are passion, conviction, commitment, communication and devotion. Besides, it is expected that the Principal must have some principles to manage, administer, guide and lead in an effective manner .
Some of the guiding principles are appended below ---

Dress and address - must be decently dressed and excellent communication skills.

Praise publically /lavishly but criticise /reprimand privately.

Rule /administer not by diktat but by dialogue.

Talk less, listen more

Create leaders not followers

More goal oriented than rule oriented

Think globally,  act locally

Not only active but proactive.

Hard working not hardly working

High on personal power and low on positional power

Have trust in your team and be trust worthy.

Fair, firm and impartial decisions.

Penchant for learning and growing

Perform or otherwise perish

Have bonding but with boundaries.

Making yourself available to the stock holders.

Have a high self esteem

Generate light rather than heat in your meetings/discussions.

Try to prove what is right and not who is right

Don't appear to be honest but be honest

Evaluate your self -assess whether your efforts are worthwhile or worthless.

Be true to your words - a person of integrity

Think positive and be positive

Maintain proper intra and inter personal relationship.

Follow VIP Mantra ie Validation, Information and Participation

Always have  A Dream to live up to,
